Hello fellow internet users.
When making my Documentary I named it A Chapter In The Life Of Debbie, I called my documentary this as Lymphoma was a large but also small chapter of Debbie Masterman's explaining what her life has been like whilst she was fighting the biggest battle of her life.
When editing my documentary I needed to think about where I was going to place all my cuts and interviews and why I have placed them there to reveal the bigger story. To do this I place all of my interview questions in to the order that I asked them, the I used the Razor blade tool to cut out this parts of the answers that I thought were relevant to create more of a smoother and cutting story so that I was able to catch the audeicnes attention so they do not become bored and feel like the documentary was twenty minutes long when it was only seven minutes long.
By using titles in my documentary this tells the audience who is speaking so they have a clear view on what they are watching and listening to. I did this by going on to the black box and selecting the button that has the letter 'A' in the middle of it, then I use the text chose of Lower 3rd.
when using text over a layer and voice over I made it do that the text faded in and out so that the audience didn't feel like there was something jumping up at them as the documentary is a very sensitive story. I did this by using the Toggle clip overlay, this creates a black line at the top of the video later, I then used the Pen tool so that I was able to pin point where I wanted my video to face by moving the point downwards to create a fading look.
When making the documentary I used many cutaways, I used different times of cutaways in my documentary so as Jump cut, this gives the audience the impression that the story is moving along to reveal the next part of Debbie's chapter. I also used the techniques of cutaways over my interview with Debbie Masterman so that I was able to cut up some of the interviews so that the audience didn't feel like they were watching the same thing all through the documentary, this causes the audience to become bored and easily distracted.
In the main part of the documentary where Debbie Masterman is crying, I used sad soothing Piano music so that it drawn up the tension even more creating emotions so that the audience is feeling what the character is also feeling, I did this by cutting the music on the point where Debbie started crying and then cut the music to stop when she starts to move on to a different topic.
When debbie Masterman's mother is talking about what Debbie was like as a child I created a montage of picture of Debbie when she was younger so that audience get a closer inside how Debbie's personalty and how happy she was as a child, this causes the audience to become more engaged in Debbie's story.
The ending of the documentary is the conclusion, how I have done my conclusion is by having a cut away of Debbie at different angles placed at the top of Hartshead Pike, the reason why I have chosen Hartshead Pike as my conclusion is because in one part of the interview Debbie mentions that when she was in hospital she had a beautiful view and when she was lying in bed she was thinking to her self that one day she would be stood at the top off that point. This was also used as a metaphor as Hartshead Pike was the metaphor of Cancer, her getting to the top that hill was her concurring the toughest battle she has ever had to live through.
